Taught by Don't Tell My Mother! creator and feature film executive Nikki Levy (FROST/NIXON), this four-week writing workshop combines the art of writing with the business of good storytelling. The emphasis is on personal stories, but all genres are welcome.
Don't Tell My Mother! Storytelling Workshop is designed for all levels, so whether you are a novice looking to express your creativity or a professional honing your craft, Nikki will lead you through generative exercises to help you find, shape and craft your material. She uses her experience developing movies to teach storytelling from the perspectives of "arc" and "character." Above all, we will craft fun, compelling narratives that will open your heart and entertain an audience.
Class sizes are kept small to ensure each student receives maximum time and attention.

Are you a writer? Director? Producer? Development Executive? Agent? Manager? Entertainment Attorney? Or looking to become an effective player in the business? In Hollywood, story is king. It's the currency of the business; it's what fuels it. Without story, there is nothing. To be successful in most any facet of the business, one must know story - what makes a good one work, and how to fix one that doesn't. It isn't rocket science, but it is a skill. In this one-day, 3-hour workshop, we are going to learn the studio methodology for writing coverage. We will evaluate a particular screenplay and learn how execs, reps and talent look at material. We will discuss plot, structure, characters, and what to do when it isn't working.
Creator and host of the critically-acclaimed comedy event Don't Tell My Mother!, Nikki brings 11 years of experience as a development executive in Hollywood. Most recently Vice President of Wedge Works World Wide, a feature film production company with an exclusive deal at Twentieth Century Fox, Nikki has overseen numerous films including Fox Animation's EPIC starring Beyonce, Amanda Seyfried and Josh Hutcherson, and the upcoming Paramount release, MONSTER TRUCKS. Nikki was previously the Director of Development at Imagine Entertainment where she served as an executive on the Academy Award-winning film FROST/NIXON. A graduate of Northwestern University's Radio/TV/Film major, with a certificate from The Creative Writing for the Media Program, Nikki is also a writer, performing monthly at Don't Tell My Mother!, and other shows in Los Angeles and New York.
Don't Tell My Mother! has been recognized and awarded by LA Weekly, Time Out LA, LA Times, KCRW, Flavorpill, and others.
